The guys over at Hot Hardware ran a performance comparison test of the Windows Vista and Windows 7 hard drive and solid state drive performance. The tests show that there are not differences in hard drive performance between the two operating systems. We already mentioned previously that Microsoft has optimized the SSD performance in Windows 7 and the tests show that SSDs perform better in Windows 7.
Tests performed under Windows Vista
show an average read performance between 171 MB/s and 206 MB/s while the same hardware averages 223 MB/s to 234 MB/s under Windows 7. That鈥檚 an increase of between 28 MB/s to 52 MB/s.

Write speeds do not show the same performance increase in the comparison. Only the burst speed takes a jump from 86.4 MB/s to 106 MB/s under Windows 7.
